Persistent left superior vena cava with bilateral azygos system in an adult.

چکیده
The condition to be described was discovered during routine dissecting-room work in a man aged 88, who had no history of any illness during life, and whose death was due to bronchopneumonia. The left subclavian and internal jugular veins united in the neck to form a left superior vena cava which passed directly down over the arch of the aorta and the pulmonary trunk to lie between the left auricle anteriorly and the pulmonary vessels and bronchus in the root of the left lung posteriorly (Fig. 1). The vessel then turned to the right in the posterior part of the coronary sulcus and became continuous with the coronary sinus: its total length from origin to termination was 15 cm. On the arch of the aorta, the left vena cava received the left internal mammary and superior intercostal veins, and just before its termination it was joined by the left marginal vein from the anterior part of the

Kawashima operation: functional modification of bidirectional Glen shunt with left superior vena cava in single ventricular morphology.
Single ventricle physiology offers limited options with significant morbidity and mortality. The Glenn shunt is a mid-stage procedure for the Fontan circulation. With persistent left Superior Vena Cava (SVC) and Azygos continuation of the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) to the SVC, needs the development of bilateral bidirectional Glenn shunts. Fifteen patients underwent Bidirectional Glen shunt proced...
متن کاملLeft superior vena cava with left azygos vein.
An incidence of a left superior vena cava with a left azygos vein was found in a cadaver during an Osaka Dental University student's dissection practice session in 2002. The left superior vena cava began from the confluence between the right and left brachiocephalic veins, and extended directly into the left superior edge of the coronary sinus. No right superior vena cava was observed. The left...
متن کاملFailure of Femoral Access to Electrophysiological Evaluation Due to Aplasia of the Inferior Vena Cava
We report an interesting case of a man with a persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) with left azygos vein who underwent electrophysiological evaluation. Further evaluation revealed congenital dilated azygos vein, while a segment connecting the inferior vena cava (IVC) to the hepatic vein and right atrium was missing. The azygos vein drained into the superior vena cava, and the hepatic vein...
متن کاملAbsent right superior vena cava: multimodality imaging of upper body venous drainage via left-sided superior vena cava and azygos venous system.
A 63-year-old man was referred for cardiac evaluation after a chest radiograph for an upper respiratory tract infection demonstrated prominent mediastinal borders (Figure 1). He had a normal clinical examination. A dilated coronary sinus was identified on transthoracic echocardiography. On subsequent transesophageal echocardiography, agitated saline contrast injected into the left antecubital v...
متن کاملAnatomical observations on the course of the azygos vein (vena azygos major).
In man, the azygos vein is described as ascending on the right side of the vertebral column until it curves anteriorly over the right bronchus to end in the superior vena cava. However, it has been observed that frequently the azygos vein is found to run part of its course on the left side of the midline. No description of this course has been found in current anatomical textbooks or other lite...
